Peterhouse Boys

Rector's Welcome

A very warm welcome to the Peterhouse website which I trust you will find both informative and accessible.

Peterhouse is a top class independent school and like all other similar schools across the globe we offer our pupils an education which is characterised by an outstanding breadth of opportunity – excellent teaching, a very wide range of sporting, musical and extra-curricular activities and plenty of other remarkable challenges like reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro. All of these experiences play their part in the development of self-confidence and character and in ensuring that our pupils leave us with the academic qualifications and personal qualities necessary to make a positive difference to life beyond school.

We unashamedly champion a core set of values – loyalty, decency, honesty, humility, service, self- sacrifice and respect – all based upon the Anglican tradition of the Christian faith and this underpins everything else we do. An education which is not based upon a strong core set of values is, in my view, almost worthless.

Peterhouse has a proud heritage and a well-deserved reputation for producing young men and young women of the highest calibre – it is a school with great traditions. Nevertheless, a Peterhouse education is very much focused on the future and not on the past; pupils are prepared for life/work in the modern era i.e. the 21st century. This preparation is based upon developing 6 core competencies (the 6 Cs):

1. Critical thinking;

2. Creativity;

3. Communication;

4. Character;

5. Collaboration; and

6. Cross-Cultural skills

All of which are essential to success in today’s rapidly changing and highly innovative work place.

It is particularly important to me that our pupils are happy, that they enjoy being here and that they feel well supported and secure, no matter what they do and no matter who they are, and I do all I possibly can to ensure that their well-being is high on the list of our priorities; school should be fun!

I do hope that you will be able to visit Peterhouse; I know that you will be most impressed with our facilities, by the pupils and staff you meet and by the warmth of the welcome you receive.

I look forward to meeting you.

Howard Blackett MA (Oxon), MBA Rector of Peterhouse
