Peterhouse Boys

Snell House

Assistant Housemaster  -  Mr Tongai Songore

Head of House  -  Takunda Makiwa

Snell House was named after Fred Snell and being the only single story House opened in 1984.   The first Housemaster was Mr Andrew Hall (an old boy of Paget House).

Snell House has had several developments in recent years such as the Common Room with lounge suite, DVD player, surround sound, wall to wall carpeting and display boards.  An unused room was renovated to create a kitchen that now has a microwave, two-plate stove, toaster, snackwich-maker and coffeemaker.  The old laundry room was emptied to create a new games room.  A pool table was donated as well as a dartboard.  The table tennis table was also put in the new room.
The unused volleyball court was removed and goal post set up to create a new soccer pitch and a new pizza oven was built next to the braai area.

Francois de Kock has been teaching Science and Biology and coaching Rugby and Cricket at Peterhouse Boys since January 2012 and has been Housemaster of Snell since January 2016.

He is a Pretoria Teacher’s College Graduate (1989-1992) and is currently studying for his Honours in Educational Law and Management. Previously Francois taught at Willem Cruywagen in South Africa in 1994. He then emigrated to Zimbabwe in 1995 where he was a Grade 5 teacher and Head of Sports at Kyle Preparatory School in Masvingo. Here he boosted the rugby of this small rural school significantly, making Kyle a force to be reckoned with; even by Springvale and Ruzawi standards! Francois met and married a local farmer’s daughter and was enticed to join the family farming business from 1998 – 2011, giving him the opportunity to indulge himself in his passion for fishing and the outdoor life in general.

Francois is Head of Junior Rugby and continues to teach his beloved Science. He also coaches a very successful cricket side each year as well as his famously unbeaten U14A rugby “machines.” Francois enjoys fishing and creates beautiful gardens and “green” areas around the school. He is married to Janeen, a Peterhouse Boys’ English teacher, and has two children: Reuben (13) and Meagan (11). They also have two aging bullmastiff dogs whose sole purpose in life is to prevent hungry hammerkop birds from eating the koi in “their” fishpond.
