Rector's Welcome PDF Print E-mail

A very warm welcome to the Peterhouse website which I trust you will find both informative and user-friendly.

Peterhouse is a top class independent school and like all other similar schools across the globe we offer our pupils an education which is characterised by an outstanding breadth of opportunity – excellent teaching, a very wide range of sporting, musical and extra-curricular activities and plenty of other remarkable challenges such as climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.  All of these experiences play their part in the development of self confidence and character and in ensuring that our pupils leave us with the academic qualifications and personal qualities necessary to make a genuine and positive difference to life beyond school.

We unashamedly champion a core set of values – loyalty, decency, honesty, humility, service, self sacrifice and respect – all based upon the Anglican tradition of the Christian faith and this underpins everything else we do. An education which is not based upon a strong core set of values is, in my view, almost worthless.

History PDF Print E-mail

In September 1951, Edward Paget, Bishop of Southern Rhodesia, wrote to the Rector of Michaelhouse in Natal, offering him the headship of a school that did not exist. Six months later, Fred Snell started working with Canon Robert Grinham and the Ruzawi School Board toward the creation of an independent senior school.

Peterhouse opened in 1955 under the rectorship of Fred Snell with 55 boys and within five years the number had risen to 360 according to plan. Peterhouse was founded as an Anglican boys’ country boarding school. Its aims were to promote the ideals of Christian manhood, academic excellence and social responsibility.
