This year it was held at Camp Dwala in the Matopos over the weekend of 4th to 8th April. The event tests skills such as mountain biking, orienteering, swimming, running, hiking and teamwork. Over three days a number of way points, plotted on a GPS, must be visited, and the visit recorded by photograph.

Poetry Slam 2019

The Peterhouse Boys’ English Department hosted a very successful ‘Poetry Slam’ at the end of last term in the Megahey Centre. Here twenty-eight young poets from Peterhouse Boys and Peterhouse Girls wrote and presented their poems to an audience and a panel of judges (Mr R. Hanly and Mrs T. Kapuya). The poems were insightful and a lot of planning went into the recitations. The boys and girls gave an entertaining performance and the audience was both supportive and involved in the proceedings. Mr S Davy kept the programme flowing with his witty anecdotes and heartfelt - often very funny - renditions of famous poetry.

Five boys signed up for this project and planning was done over three weeks at school – menus, budgets, tools, kit lists etc. Being well prepared – wide brim hats, sunscreen and gloves made things easier. Work to be done included helping at the trout hatchery, clearing pathways around the dams, repair of wooden jetties and bridges, slashing on grass jetties, removal of exotic pines, clearing roadways which were overgrown etc. Boys are required to work in unfamiliar surroundings with unfamiliar people for eight hours per day for five days.

Cyclone Idai - Completing the Thread of Support 2019

Peterhouse Group of Schools and their support of those affected by Cyclone Idai

As news of how Cyclone Idai had unleashed its power on the Chimanimani Community came through the day after it hit land, all we could do was ask one another ‘what can we do to help? Immediately, a letter from all three Heads went out to their respective schools asking pupils to return that Monday morning with blankets, towels, non-perishable food and toiletries.

Before long the school bike shed filled up with the most unbelievable volume of items handed in from almost every pupil and staff member, as they returned after their time away at home. The next job was to sort it, pack it into family bundles and get it up to the mountainous communities that we cared so much about. Peterhouse has been visiting this place every year, for over 60 years, so we had very real compulsion to serve and support as many people up there, as we possibly could.
