Interact Club Visit to Ida weKwako Old Age Home 2019

Recently the Interact Club visited Ida weKwakwo Old Age Home to deliver new appliances for their kitchen.

As a Club, we decided to direct the majority of our raised funds to renovating the Ida weKwakwo kitchen. Money from the Valentine’s Day roses’ sales in February this year bought the Old Age Home a new refrigerator and a new electrical stove.

We presented the new appliances to the residents who were completely overwhelmed and literally beaming with delight! Some stood up and began to lead in song which everyone joined in. It was a happy and fulfilling afternoon; we left the Home with a very cheerful group of people.

The trip enabled pupils from all over the world to interact and socialize. They took part in team debate, collaborative writing, the scholars’ challenge and the scholars’ bowl. The theme of the year is A World on the Margins and the participants had to tackle motions such as every political leader should have a homeless person to be on their advisory panel.

Senior Musician of the Year 2019

Eleven senior competitors performed in this year’s senior musician of the year. It was hosted by Peterhouse Girls, ably adjudicated by Mr Griggs and was the most entertaining evening.

We also had a fantastic ‘taster recital’ by the chorus and some main singers from our School Musical.

Tatenda Zvidzai (PHG) came first while Charles Moscrop (PHB) came second overall with a fantastic singing performance.

Leo Dance Fundraiser 2019

The Leo Club is a charity organisation that is run by senior students to provide service to the Marondera community by offering assistance to various beneficiaries within the area. Namely: Ida we Kwako – old age home, Musha weVana Orphanage, The General Hospital, Kukura ne Shungu and St. Francis Primary School.

This year, the Leo Club has done exceptionally well, despite the current economic situation. Under the theme “Dynasty”, the Leo Dance Committee was able to raise RTGS 9000.00. The fundraiser was a success, and has set high standards for the incoming Leos. The dance was the highlight of this year’s achievements, from planning, to carrying out the tasks required, which serves to prove that collective efforts outweigh individual ones.

Michael Zartmann Achieves Gold 2019

uke of Edinburgh’s International Award

Congratulations to Michael Zartmann who has completed his Gold Award. He worked for over 52 weeks at Mountain Biking, Trombone tuition and Conservation. For his Adventurous Journey, he chose to hike the gruelling 65km ‘River to River’ Expedition. Much of this Journey was spent navigating and cutting through virgin bush, vines and thick riverine jungle.

The Residential Project is one of the unique aspects of the Gold Award where pupils have to stay in an unfamiliar setting doing voluntary work for five days and four nights. The feedback we received from people running the KweKwe & Redcliff SPCA described Michael as having been ‘exemplary’ on his five day Voluntary Residential Project, where he worked with animals coming into the SPCA in some very difficult and tragic circumstances.
