Global Leadership Summit – Youth Leadership Programme 2017

The Global Leadership Summit (GLS) exists to transform Christian leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development, and inspiration. Every year over 400 000 leaders attend the summit in some 140 countries around the world.

Recently Peterhouse has partnered with the GLS team in Zimbabwe and this year our partnership has developed and run two [mini] GLS programmes for senior pupils in schools (we describe these as GLS Youth Leadership Programmes). The first was for our senior pupils at Peterhouse (this intervention won applause (first place) from the GLS youth development team in Chicago)

On Friday 24th November we ran the same programme for CHISZ School Prefects. We attracted 120 pupils from 7 different Schools in Zimbabwe.

Leavers Ball 2017

This year’s Leavers Ball was held at Raintree in Harare.

It was a grand occasion and the result of our fabulous organising committee led by our Head of School’s moms.

Huge thanks must go to everyone involved in making this a farewell to remember.

To the Leavers of 2017 – we wish you all the best in your future lives, and encourage you to stay in touch, and let us know where you are and how you are getting along.

Leavers Service 2017

We bid farewell to our Petreans of 2017 on Tuesday 14th November during a fitting and memorable Leavers Service in the Peterhouse Chapel.

An amusing and humorous, yet meaningful and thoughtful, address was given by Mr Lenard Mudiwa, who is himself also leaving at the end of this year, to take up Headship of Lendy Park School.

It is always an emotional time for staff and parents as we watch them sing their last war-cries with the school body.

We wish these young men all the best in the future and do hope they stay in touch via the Petrean Society.

Duke of Edinburgh International Award Training 2017

This week we hosted three trainers from the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Peterhouse to conduct training on the Award for staff from various ATS schools. Chisipite Senior School, St Johns College, Falcon College, St Andrews International School from Malawi and Peterhouse all sent delegates for training on various aspects of running the Award in Zimbabwe.

The training was top quality and great, great fun. We really got to know one another well and had a good time working together.

We held a special dinner on one of the evenings, where all the pupils at Peterhouse who are doing their Silver and Gold Awards could meet with the trainers and hear from two Gold Awarders who have just achieved this incredible level during their time at Peterhouse.

The new Megahey Centre at Peterhouse 2017

Speech Day at Peterhouse this term was no ordinary occasion – it marked the opening of the school’s new Learning Resource Centre – The Megahey Centre.

Named after the 3rd Rector of Peterhouse, the late Alan Megahey, and built at a cost of $1.5million, donated to the school by an anonymous benefactor based in the UK, the new LRC is a vibrant, interactive complex with both formal seating for pupils of all ages to access the internet and do online research, as well as more comfortable and relaxed seating areas for them to enjoy reading and studying.

Giraffe Translocation to Gosho Park 2017

The planning and paperwork has taken three years but at last we have a new male giraffe in Gosho Park. These beautiful animals are so graceful and yet can be very comical when they turn and stare at people - children are fascinated by them and they are a wonderful topic for a lesson.

The capture from Imire Game Park went very smoothly and he was soon on his way in a huge lorry (not with his head sticking out the top! - He was safely inside). We had to use the top service gate because our Peterhouse Girls trees meet over the road and the vehicle was too tall. Once in the park, a ramp was put down for him to walk out into his new home - he galloped off a few meters and then turned and starred around him wondering…. Where am I?
