Learner Guides to Imire 2018

Our Learner Guides spent a weekend at Imire Game Park (Rhino and Wildlife Conservation) getting details of animals and insects. A close look at the black rhino while feeding them in pens gave us details of their dentition, skin, footprints etc. while the white rhino and baby were observed from a vehicle.

In the evening we went frogging and caught four species which were identified and we also had a night drive to look for nocturnal animals.

Our early morning walk with the elephants was an amazing way to observe these magnificent pachyderms – their feet, dentition, feeding methods, social structure, intelligence etc led to plenty of discussion.

D Block Basecamp 2018

This year we again ran Basecamp early in the Lent Term, confident in the knowledge that it helps build understanding and strengthen relationships amongst the new boys in their respective Houses. Basecamp is the [D block] entry level Wilderness Teambuilding Programme at Peterhouse. This is part of a four stage “adventure based experiential learning” process that is one important aspect of the Infinity Programme. We ran Basecamp from the Picnic Site in Calderwood Park; the facilities are perfect for Basecamp and the new Lapa, toilets and awesome camping area now make this the ideal setting for this unique experience.

Ring Road Interhouse Relay 2018

The first Sunday of term saw the Ring Road Relay take place as Houses competed against each other in this fierce competition. All age groups competed and it was the first Interhouse event for our new boys who were eagerly cheered on by their Houses. This event also gave our new D Block boys, and visiting D Block girls, a chance to mingle before their ‘Social’ held afterwards.

The Ring Road is 1344 meters long (1.344 km) which means that each individual only has to run 224 metres in the relay. 15 laps are completed giving a total length of 20.16 kms. Well done to Founders House for coming first – it looks like Grinham boys need to spend a bit more time on the track this term!
