Ironwill 2019

Ironwill is an annual event organised by Sheryl and Alan Winterton. The venue changes every year to include many of the rugged beauty spots around Zimbabwe. This year it was held at Camp Dwala in the Matopos over the weekend of 4th to 8th April. The event tests skills such as mountain biking, orienteering, swimming, running, hiking and teamwork. Over three days a number of way points, plotted on a GPS, must be visited, and the visit recorded by photograph.

Keith Elliott, B Block, PHB, entered in a team with his father, Trevor. Erin Elliott, A Block, PHG, entered in a team with her elder brother, Brett. Competition was stiff, these two teams battled for top spot against veterans of the event, as well as representatives from Quest in Bulawayo.

They cycled over granite domes (dwalas) and over the toughest terrain Matopos had to offer and hiked through thorn bushes and over dwalas! They had to perform trust activities such as walking over rocks blindfolded and had to swim through caves filled with very cold water!

Eventually, Keith and Trevor emerged victorious, with Erin and Brett a close second, only just beating the previous champions.
