Staff Profile – Mr Scott Walraven

Scott joined Peterhouse Boys in 2016 as a teacher in the History Department and Rowing Coach. He was appointed Senior Tutor (Middle School) in January 2019 and is the In-House Tutor in Paget House.

Previously to starting work at Peterhouse Scott completed a BA in History and Politics as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Rhodes University between 2012 and 2015. During his time at Rhodes he was an avid oarsman, rowing in the varsity First VIII from 2012 to 2014 and went on to be the Men’s Club Captain. As a coach he coached the Rhodes B Crew and did a stint as a coach at Diocesan School for Girls, Grahamstown. He is a Petrean, enjoying the Peterhouse education from 2006 to 2011 where he also rowed; he is also a proud Old Boy of Ruzawi School.

Scott’s other interests include an undying passion for history as well as an interest in snakes. He re-started the Peterhouse Natural History Society and Snake Club and started the Peterhouse History Society in January 2019 in a drive to further broaden the range of opportunities offered at Peterhouse. He is committed to the idea of catering for the smallest niche of participation so that each boy has something they can call their own and has something to be good at. He is also an avid “gamer” and enjoys using video games to bring to life the subject he loves so dearly in the classroom and in the History Society.

Scott is married to Stephanie (Grade 7 teacher at Springvale House), they have a young son Alec. Scott hopes to leave a mark on his old school and hopes to bring positive influences to, what he believes, is a school with so much potential.
