Learner Guides Trip to Imire Game Park 2020

Our Vth and VIth Form Learner Guide classes visited Imire Game Park over the weekend. This is always a good venue with plenty of game and good birding.

Dams were low which meant there was a lot of mud and shallow water for wading birds – plenty practice in identification of birds. We had a tracking lesson and the highlight was finding aardvaak tracks which took a while to identify.

Our walk with elephants allowed pupils to get up really close to the animals, discuss their anatomy and feed them some pellets. All the rhinos are now ‘free range’ so visitors get in the boma and the rhinos come for feeding outside the boma fence so we had a good close up look at them.

We watched a demonstration by the tracker dog – amazing animals and they would certainly put any poacher off. Pupils were very keen to fish and caught bass in the dams.

This was a great introduction to the larger mammals and there was plenty of bird life for pupils to identify.

Thank you Imire!
