Peterhouse Boys

Snell House

Assistant Housemaster  -  Mr Allen Chakumhara

Head of House  -  Tendekai Mataranyika

Snell House was named after Fred Snell and being the only single story House opened in 1984.   The first Housemaster was Mr Andrew Hall (an old boy of Paget House).

Snell House has had several developments in recent years such as the Common Room with lounge suite, DVD player, surround sound, wall to wall carpeting and display boards.  An unused room was renovated to create a kitchen that now has a microwave, two-plate stove, toaster, snackwich-maker and coffeemaker.  The old laundry room was emptied to create a new games room.  A pool table was donated as well as a dartboard.  The table tennis table was also put in the new room.
The unused volleyball court was removed and goal post set up to create a new soccer pitch and a new pizza oven was built next to the braai area.

Scott Walraven has been Housemaster of Snell House since January 2020.

Scott Walraven joined Peterhouse in 2016 as a History Teacher straight out of University. He was the In-House Tutor in Founders in 2016 and the In-House Tutor of Paget from 2017 to 2019 while also being the Senior Tutor (Middle School) for 2019.

Scott is a Petrean of the class of 2011 and attended Rhodes University after 6 formative years at Peterhouse. He studied a Bachelor of Arts in History and Politics from 2012 to 2014 and completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education in History and Life Orientation in 2015. Scott was a first-class oarsman at Rhodes University where he rowed in the First VIII from 2012 to 2014 and captained the Rhodes University Rowing Club in 2014. Fortunately, as he completed his PGCE Peterhouse advertised for a History teacher and Scott was appointed into what he calls his “dream job”. He always hoped his passion for his old school would bring him back one day.

Upon joining Peterhouse Scott was I/C Rowing from 2016 to 2018 and coached rugby at U14 B level though he currently prefers his D and C team rugby boys! Scott also kick started the Peterhouse Snake Club and started the Peterhouse History Society in 2019, both of which are examplary of the depth of a Peterhouse education.

Scott hopes to hold high the values of Peterhouse in the Snell boys and aims to bring a sense of home and challenge to the House, thus ensuring that each individual has the space and audacity to achieve their potential.

Scott is married to Stephanie who teaches Grade 7 at Springvale House. They have a young son named Alec Michael and are expecting their second child in early 2020.
