Peterhouse Musician of the Year 2022

‘Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common’. Sarah Dessen

After a twenty-year absence, internationally benchmarked Music Examinations have returned to Peterhouse and Zimbabwe. This term we were fortunate to host Paul Coleman, a London College of Music examiner, for three days whilst he evaluated a good number of our music pupils. While the results are still to be published, he spoke very favourably of the pupils he examined. Having internationally recognized music examinations back in Zimbabwe will do much for the development of music in the school.

Nyanga Fly Fishing Weekend 2022

Twelve pupils braved the cold and tried their luck at fishing in the Connemara Lakes, Nyanga, recently.

It was windy, which was unhelpful but our pupils did manage to land some fish, despite the weather.

Pupils who were new to the sport had lessons in rigging rods and casting which takes a bit of practice. They also spent some time learning how to tie flies – a good activity to keep them busy while warming up next to the fire.

Our grateful thanks to Fly Fishing Zimbabwe and to those who gave up their time to help.

Then & Now - Computerisation in 1985

Back in 1985 Peterhouse had just two computers. They were a very precious commodity and only boys in the Computer Club, who had scrambled fast enough to sign up, had access to them. They were kept locked away in a staff study and for some, the technology was either exciting, or intimidating – some staff hoped they’d go away in time – a new fad and all that!

Fast forward 37 years and we can hardly imagine a world without computers.

The Peterhouse Group now has 8 full computer labs to accommodate classes of 20- 25 pupils at a time. There are desktops, laptops, iPads and devices with every pupil connected in some way or another.

Imagine the world in another 30 years’ time!
