Leo Dance Fundraiser 2019

The Leo Club is a charity organisation that is run by senior students to provide service to the Marondera community by offering assistance to various beneficiaries within the area. Namely: Ida we Kwako – old age home, Musha weVana Orphanage, The General Hospital, Kukura ne Shungu and St. Francis Primary School.

This year, the Leo Club has done exceptionally well, despite the current economic situation. Under the theme “Dynasty”, the Leo Dance Committee was able to raise RTGS 9000.00. The fundraiser was a success, and has set high standards for the incoming Leos. The dance was the highlight of this year’s achievements, from planning, to carrying out the tasks required, which serves to prove that collective efforts outweigh individual ones.

Michael Zartmann Achieves Gold 2019

uke of Edinburgh’s International Award

Congratulations to Michael Zartmann who has completed his Gold Award. He worked for over 52 weeks at Mountain Biking, Trombone tuition and Conservation. For his Adventurous Journey, he chose to hike the gruelling 65km ‘River to River’ Expedition. Much of this Journey was spent navigating and cutting through virgin bush, vines and thick riverine jungle.

The Residential Project is one of the unique aspects of the Gold Award where pupils have to stay in an unfamiliar setting doing voluntary work for five days and four nights. The feedback we received from people running the KweKwe & Redcliff SPCA described Michael as having been ‘exemplary’ on his five day Voluntary Residential Project, where he worked with animals coming into the SPCA in some very difficult and tragic circumstances.

Recently several delegates from our MUN went to Arundel for their annual conference. The topic for the conference was United in Change – Redefining Social Constructs.

The two days were filled with exciting debate and lots of fun as we got to meet new people whom we will never forget.

We started with the safety lecture and then went on to firing handguns from a canoe which is part of the shooting exam. Next was the silhouette targets with a .22 which was fun.

Our Learner Guides then had the opportunity to fire heavy calibre weapons – a very valuable experience for all. Our thanks to the instructors and Cleveland for the use of their facilities.
