Director of Academic Advancement 2021

Congratulations to Mrs Michelle Scott Elliot on being appointed Director of Academic Advancement, effective September 2021. This role will serve to provide strategic direction in the pursuance of a strong and robust academic programme at the Peterhouse Group.

Given the significant shifts that have taken place in teaching spaces over the course of the last year there is, given the expansion of digital teaching, a need for the Group of Schools to re-evaluate our approach to Curriculum Development.

With this in mind, the post of Director of Academic Advancement has been created. This senior management post will offer the Group an opportunity to rigorously investigate best academic practice in an environment which is demanding greater levels of creativity and innovation.

C Block Outback Expedition 2021

Earlier this term, 73 C block boys (Form 2) walked across to Hikers hut in Gosho Park, full of excitement and ready to embark on a great adventure. The instructors were introduced to their groups, equipment and food was distributed and tents were pitched. After supper all got the opportunity to express their hopes and fears for the expedition. Sitting round the campfire with friends till bedtime rounded off a great first day.

The sound of, “Rising”, at the crack of dawn caused a few regrets for those who were chatting away through the night but a hearty breakfast soon lifted the spirits and all were ready by 8:00 to embark on their respective hikes, some groups to ZAMHOLS and the rest to Kushinga Dam.

Learner Guide Trip to Imire 2021

The Peterhouse Learner Guides spent the last weekend of term at Imire and it proved to be an action packed weekend.

We had a visiting lecturer Dr. Van Laeren (a specialist horse vet) who taught us so much about anatomy – bones and skulls. He brought specimens which pupils could handle and skulls to work out dental formula etc.

When walking in the bush we found bones so were able to get a much better understanding of where they fitted into the skeleton. We had a lecture on aging elephants using their teeth and measured specimens to put the theory into practice which makes the facts much easier to remember.

Fly Fishing in Nyanga 2021

The weekend of 21st to 23rd May saw 17 Peterhouse pupils (11 boys and 6 girls) spent time up at the Connemara, Nyanga, for a fly fishing weekend.

On the first evening we learnt how to tie several flies - how satisfying it would be to catch a fish on a fly you had made yourself.

Pupils had lessons on how to rig their rods and the different lines and flies. Saturday morning everyone was up early, had a quick breakfast and was out fishing in no time at all.
