Keegan Mannix Represents Zimbabwe PoloX 2021

Zimbabwe Juniors vs South Africa Juniors Polocrosse Development Tour

Bulawayo 2021

Well done to Keegan Mannix and fellow Zimbabwe representatives who played exceptionally well at the tournament and showed us they have what it takes. The team travelled to Bulawayo a week before the test matches for a coaching clinic, giving them time to play as a team, trust in each other and work with different horses. A big thanks must go out to the Bulawayo parents and Polox community who organised the event and hosted them team and horses for two weeks.

Introducing our 2021 Tinokura Prefect - Reuben de Kock

Peterhouse_Prefect_Reuben_de_Kock_2021My name is Reuben de Kock and I am in Founders House. I am originally from Masvingo but moved to Marondera to join Springvale House in 2012, before joining Peterhouse in D block (Form 1)
I am currently studying Mathematics, Physics and Design Technology.

At Peterhouse I mainly enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking and fishing in the school dams. My interests have been varied from filming sport on Saturdays, to painting Zimbawean scenery in acrylics and master-minding lighting and backdrop changes in the school’s drama productions. The outdoor expeditions at Peterhouse have shaped me and changed my perspective on life as a whole because I have been forced out of my comfort zone and have been physically and mentally challenged.

Peterhouse Boys Interhouse Cross Country 2021

Peterhouse_Boys_Cross_Country_2021It couldn’t have been easy to run cross country this year, after months of lockdown and very little training, but the boys were out practicing the course, running by House, around the estate and down into Calderwood Park.

Well done to all boys who participated – your strength and determination was evident, especially during that long uphill climb back towards the Athletics fields.

Well done to Snell House for winning this year’s competition.

Meet Karan Moore - Peterhouse Equestrian Centre Manager

Karan Moore joined Peterhouse in May 2019 as an Instructor and Manger of the Equestrian Centre.

Born in Gweru, her family moved to Phalaborwa, South Africa where she completed her schooling and developed her love for horses and nature, living a stone’s throw from the Kruger National Park and learning to ride at the Phalaborwa Mining Company Riding Club. Upon leaving school Karan trained as a Horse Riding Instructor at Stonyhurst Riding School, in KwaZulu Natal.

Deciding this was her true calling, Karan went on to further her training in the UK where she gainned valuable experience and completed her British Horse Society Instructors Level 3 Coaching Certificate. During her time in the UK Karan worked at a Warmblood Stud with quality stock and good bloodlines like Grand Prix dressage horse, Broadstone Demonstrator. She also worked for Tim & Antonia Brown Eventing and travelled to many top shows like Burghley, Badminton, and Olympia to name a few. The Cottesmore Hunt provided her with many horses to ride, exercise and plenty of work in this area in the winter months.

Learner Guide Trip to Mururu 2021

Learner_Guides_Mururu_Trip1Our Sixth Form learner guides recently attended the ‘Mururu’ training course under the guidance of the Zimbabwe Professional Guides Association (ZPGA) in the Dande Safari Area.

What a wonderful opportunity it turned out to be with volunteer lecturers with years of experience teaching our pupils a variety of topics such as – guided walks, firearms and shooting practice, bush-craft making string and fire, scorpions, bones and skulls, trophies and skins, tree identification and wild flowers, tracking, bird identification, spiders and butterflies, National Parks laws and first aid, backpacks and safety briefings, vehicle maintenance and fixing punctures – the list goes on.

The more advanced learners, hoping to do their proficiency later in the year, spent hours tracking buffalo in thick bush under the tuition of experienced hunters and shared their experiences with us.
