Peterhouse Boys

Peterhouse Music Camp 2018

This year we have had 71 campers. This includes campers from Bulawayo, Mozambique, Italy and one from France. They have spent the week together at Peterhouse Girls School.

This year we did not feature a Full Orchestra, but instead decided to give every camper the opportunity to learn and play jazz, as well as making time for Chamber Music. A delicate and challenging skill that all musicians should have experience in.

Our guest conductors this year come from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Italy.

Tinashe Jera, from Zimbabwe, spent the week conducting the choir and running workshops about composition and vocal techniques. He is a composer himself and the choir learnt one of his own gospel songs.
Coraleen Masawi, known as Masa, assisted with the choir and also ran vocal workshops of her own. She is a Zimbabwean singer songwriter and will be releasing an album later this month. Her and her band gave us a wonderful performance during Musicamp.

Grant Snyman conducted the wind band. Grant is from Port Elizabeth where he is the conductor of the Nelson Mandela University Orchestra and Teacher at Collegiate Girls' High School. Grant is a clarinet specialist and spent many hours working with our young clarinetists during the week.

Marco Volpe joins us from Italy, along with his wife Manuela, who sang with the choir for the week. Marco conducted the Jazz band. Marco is currently a professor at the Music Conservatory “Tito Schipa” in Lecce, Italy
Andre Oosthuizen conducted the String Orchestra. He is currently the co-conductor of the North West Youth Orchestra and the conductor of the North West University Wind Band and the NWU Puk-Symphony Orchestra. Andre is a flute specialist and also spent many hours working with our young players in the week.

The week also included many fun activities like Karaoke, Quiz Night, Chamber Music and a Variety Show.

The week ended with an excellent Final Concert at the Harare International School.

Many thanks to the organising team and to our guest conductors.
