Peterhouse Boys

World Environment Day 2021

During the last week of term Peterhouse celebrated World Environment Day by dressing in green and learning about ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ – there are some good practical examples of this at Peterhouse in both Gosho and Calderwood Park such as:

Removal of exotics and planting of indigenous trees.

Planting Vetiver grass to repair erosion.

Placing logs across the flow of water that will slow the water down and cause the soil to be deposited on the uphill side of the log.

Controlled burning every four or five years to get rid of moribund grass, providing new grass for the animals and improving soil fertility.

Ensuring new roads are never made directly down a slope and that they have good drainage systems to prevent erosion.
