Peterhouse Boys

Car Policy

This policy is in place to ensure that the use of cars by pupils at Peterhouse is restricted and that the risk of serious accidents is kept to a minimum.

6th form pupils are allowed cars in school strictly on the conditions laid out below:

1. Prior to a car being driven to school the parents of the pupil concerned are required to write to the relevant Housemaster/Housemistress to seek permission for their son/daughter to use a car for transport to/from school; ( See item 6 )

2. The car must be registered with the relevant Housemaster/Housemistress before it is driven to Peterhouse (a form is provided for this exercise). A copy of the pupil’s driving license and vehicle insurance document must also be submitted to the relevant Housemaster/Housemistress;

3. The Housemaster/Housemistress will usually grant permission for a 6th form pupil to bring a car to school but the school reserves the right to refuse permission. The pupil may not bring a car to school until permission to use it has been granted;

4. All pupils’ cars must be parked in the appropriate car park as directed by the Senior Housemaster (PHB) or Sixth Form Housemistress (PHG);

5. The car’s keys must be given to the Housemaster/Housemistress and thereafter use of the car on each and every occasion must be requested by the pupil from his/her Housemaster/Housemistress;

6. Pupils may use their car to travel to/from school at the beginning and end of term and on floating or fixture free weekends. Pupils may also use their car to commute to/from school for the sitting of public examination but a separate application must be made for this purpose. Cars may not be used under any other circumstances.

7. Pupils may not leave the campus in a car without a valid vehicle pass which has been signed by the relevant Housemaster/Housemistress. This pass must detail the destination of the journey and any passengers (including siblings) in the car;

8. Pupils may only be accompanied in their car by direct family members i.e. siblings. No other pupil may travel with the driver of the car unless permission has been specifically granted by the Rector/Head PHG; such permission will only be sanctioned under exceptional circumstances and will require written consent from both sets of parents.

9. A breach of these guidelines will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter.
