Parents Code of Conduct for Sport

1. Don’t force unwilling children to play sport.

2. Remember, children are involved in sport for their enjoyment, not yours.

3. Encourage your child to play by the rules.

4. Teach your child that honest effort is as important as victory and to accept the result without undue disappointment.

5. Turn defeats into victory by helping your child with skills improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing.

6. Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposing team.

7. Don’t publicly question the judgement (and never the honesty!) of referees and umpires.

8. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sport.

9. Recognise the value of volunteer coaches who give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.

10. Help the children uphold the dress code and good manners we expect from them.
